Deep expertise in your subject. A clear argument (not just a topic). Something that changes how a reader understands the area. Long-form: 2,000–5,000 words. We prefer first-person reporting grounded in evidence.
News summaries. Trend pieces without depth. "Five things about X" listicles. Anything that could have been written by someone without domain expertise. Generic explainers without a specific argument.
Email editorial@undercurrent.press with: your proposed argument in one paragraph, your relevant expertise or access, approximate length and timeline, and two or three examples of your previous work. No attachments.
We pay a flat rate of $500 for accepted articles, on publication. We don't publish work that has appeared elsewhere. We do edit — sometimes substantially — and we'll always discuss any significant editorial changes before publication.
